GRENVILLE WINSLOW

March 21, 1945 - December 26, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our cherished father and grandfather, Grenville (Gren) Winslow on December 26, 2025 in Victoria, British Columbia.

Gren will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Heather Hilo (Emad), his son Peter Winslow (Réka), his treasured grandchildren, Julia, Ben, and Kiana, his sister Carie Winslow (Jo Fadden), his many wonderful nieces and nephews, extended family, and the countless friends whose lives he touched.

Gren was born in Gladstone to his beloved parents, Joseph Edgar George (Jack) Winslow and Marjorie Grace (Corlett) Winslow. He was predeceased in June 2024 by his beautiful cherished wife, Wendy Winslow. Married for 54 years, "Wen and Gren" were an extraordinary team - always generous with family and friends, united by laughter, a shared love of reading, and spirited conversations about politics. Now reunited, they lovingly watch over those they hold dear.

Gren was raised in Winnipeg and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1970 from the University of Manitoba. Between 1970 and 1975, he worked as an agricultural sales representative at Media Canada, a Communications Officer at the Canadian Wheat Board, Editor of the Leaf Rapids Forum, and a Media Specialist with Manitoba’s Department of Agriculture, Communications Branch.

In 1975, Gren and Wendy moved to Milton, Ontario, where Gren worked as Eastern Field Editor for Country Guide magazine before returning to Winnipeg in 1980. He then rejoined Manitoba’s Department of Agriculture, Communications Branch, contributing to radio programming, special projects, and publications. In 1985, Gren returned to Country Guide as Livestock Editor and was promoted in 1986 to Editor of Canadian Cattlemen magazine, a role he held until his retirement in 2019, becoming the longest-serving editor in the magazine’s history.

For 26 years, Gren spent every summer at the family cottage in Victoria Beach, a place he dearly loved. He especially enjoyed golfing and visiting on the deck with the "beach bunch". Gren also took great joy in teaching his grandson, Ben, to play golf, playing in the waves with his beloved grandchildren, fixing and improving the cottage - including building the "deck-in-a-day" - and helping Wendy plant her beautiful "pelican" garden.

Family and friends were vitally important to Gren and Wendy. Gren radiated kindness, patience, laughter, and a joy for living with Wendy at his side! Gren was the most giving and generous person with all those around him, especially his family, close friends, pets (Gizzie, Missy and his grand-dog, Bella) and, in particular, his grandchildren who he loved deeply.

Gren was a kind, caring, and generous person who will be forever deeply missed by all those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Arrangements are in care of Sands Funeral Chapel Cremation and Reception Centre (Victoria).

If family and friends wish, donations may be made in Gren’s memory to Victoria Hospice at: https://victoriahospice.org/how-you-can-help/giving-in-memory/in-memoriam/gren-winslow/, in appreciation of the exceptional care they provided during his final days.
